"Attacking 8's" is a warm-up drill that will begin your practice with many different skills and tactics. On the whistle, the first player in each line begins skating figure 8's around the cones with their belly always facing the player in line. As the player skates this pattern they are giving and receiving passes with their line. After 10 seconds, the coach blows the whistle which signifies that players attack the goaltender and the player in line now jumps into the figure 8.

Teaching Points

Giver: Read the receiver to ensure they are a legitimate pass option and not in a poor position to receive the puck, communicate with voice and eyes, wrist the puck versus slapping it. As you hold the puck stick handle until you move it again.

Receiver: Open pivot (belly face) so you are always facing the giver, pivot with stick on the ice versus lifting it as players turn around the cones. Provide a constant target.
