Catch n' Release

"Catch n' Release", is a great way for players to work on orienting their bodies to quickly release the puck. The shooter starts close to the face off dot with the passer begins close to the board side hash marks. The shooter faces the passer and calls for a pass, and once the puck is received they turn towards the net and try to shoot quickly. As they are shooting players are slowly fading towards the middle of the ice in line with the face off dot. As soon as first puck is off the stick a second pass is on its way. This continues until the player reaches the middle of the ice. Player then switch roles.

Teaching Points

- Trap and release quickly are cue words.

- Quick rotation is required to shoot deceptively.

- Call for the puck and set the stick blade so the passer is aware of where the puck is to be passed.
