Circle Swarm Chase

Aug. 17, 2020 at 4:25 p.m. MDT

"'Circle Swarm Chase", challenges players to carry the puck at a high speed under pressure. On the whistle, a player begins on each side with a puck and skates a full circle while being chased by the second player in line. The chaser is not allowed to check but attempts to keep their stick on the puck carriers pants. After one revolution the puck carrier continues on to the opposite end while the chaser picks up a spotted puck and then is chased by the next player. The drill is continuous and very tiring for players. Coaches are to ensure work to rest ratios are appropriate.

Teaching Points

Puck Carrier: Carry the puck in front of the body and cushion it with both the forehand and backhand.

Chaser: Attempt to keep stick on puck carriers pants and hurry them as players race around the circle.
