Close and Far Shot

"Close & Far Shot", requires shot preparation skating, timing and quick release execution and can be run with or without a goaltender. We will demonstrate two progressions in this challenging drill. In part one, you can see the players are working forehand to forehand on the pass, receive and shoot. Shots are to occur from outside the cone lanes and quick acceleration is required between shots. Players can shoot 6-8 pucks prior to switching roles. The progression is the backhand receive and shoot segment. This progression forces players to adjust to the puck and quickly move it to the forehand prior to release. Also, feel free to change the distance from the net as sets progress. This shooting drill will prove to be exhausting for players.

Teaching Points

Shooting: Push the top hand away and keep it in front of the body when shooting the puck. Attempt to shoot the puck from the last 1/3 of the stick blade. This will create much more power and accuracy.
