"Four Lane Indy 1" is one of the "Indy Series Drills". Four skating lanes are created for the players. Coaches should demo the drill by skating the lanes and demonstrating the skills. The next player begins once the first player reaches the top of the circle. This will provide players with lots of repetitions and proper work to rest ratios. Skating Progressions for consideration are:
1. Forward Wide Track Skating
2. Forward Puck Control
3. Creative Moves
4. 180 Jump Turns
5. Backwards Puck Control 5. Bubbles 6. 360 Jump Turns. Remember that changing up the orderand incorporating pucks will keep the players challenged and stimulated.
Teaching Points
Skating: Skating forwards players should be in Zone #2 of the blade. While skating backwards players should be in Zone #3. Encourage a "Calm Logo", deep knee bend, head up and stride to the side. Players shouldn't attempt to dig into the ice and rather glide and stay balanced on the blade "Quiet and smooth". Arms go side to side.
Puck Control: Carry the puck in front of the body, hands are close together, utilize both sides of the blade.
