"National Team Angle", is a no-hiding oompetitive drill which focuses on hockey sense, angling and positioning. The coach dumps puck into the zone and two players compete. The objective of the game is to gain possession of the puck and carry it behind the net and out of the zone to win. If a player is checked and possession changes hands the new player with the puck must again skate behind the net prior to attempting to skate out of the zone. This drill works very well as a 2vs2 also.
Teaching Points
Angling: Stay above the puck carrier and don't over commit and lose body position. Stop on the body and avoid "fly-by's". Stick is always on the ice and on the puck in the battle zones. Read the opponent and adjust speed and gap accordingly. In the 2vs2 progression, communication is
critical.
