"Net Chaser", challenges puck control skills under pressure in a small area station. On the whistle, two players begin on the opposite sides of the net which is laid face down on the ice. One player has a puck and attempts to evade the chaser. Players battle for about twenty seconds and then rest. If the chaser loses the puck the coach spots a new one in immediately and they continue. If the chaser catches the puck carrier they re-start on opposite sides of the net in the same roles until the whistle. On the whistle, two new players enter the drill.
Teaching Points
Puck Carrier: Use both the crossover and heal to heal pivot. Read the chaser and make fakes (body fakes) to create time and space by fooling the chaser. Chaser: Be deceptive by changing directions quickly to trick the puck carrier. Stay tight to the net and avoid flaring out. When close to the puck carrier ensure stick is in front of the body and on the puck.
