"Superman Tug O War" maximizes balance, agility, edge control and center of gravity. Players have a stick in each hand and work with a partner of similar ability. On the whistle, players attempt to skate backwards and kick their cone which is positioned about 8 feet behind them. Partners are not permitted to let go of the sticks as injury could result. Once a player touches the cone with a foot the drill re-starts for the partners. Players go until the coaches whistle then rest. Shifts should be about 20 seconds. Coaches have to allow for adequate rest.
Skating Skills: Rotate the hips and use both sides of your body and all of your edges. Deep knee bend. Power is generated in the legs and hips not in the arms and upper body. Head is always up and on opponent versus looking at your feet.
