Tempo Skate Showdown
"Tempo Skate Showdown", creates numerous reps for players in a high tempo breakaway drill. On the whistle, two players begin with a puck and skate the same direction around the center circle as quickly as possible. On the coaches whistle, one player attacks each net (whomever is closest at the time of the whistle). Two new players begin immediately. Allow the proper time for the goaltenders to be set for each shooter. The whistle should be blown every 10-15 seconds. Half way through the drill have the players are to go the opposite direction around the centre circle.
Teaching Points
Skating: Explosive crossovers and maintain tempo throughout the breakaway attack. Attack from different angles to challenge the goaltenders. Employ a rule that players cannot use the same move for two attacks in a row.
