Timber Time

"Timber Time" challenges acceleration, quick starts, and reaction time. Coaches split players into partners. One partner holds a stick upside down and balances it on the butt end. The partner then yells "Timber" and releases the stick. Their partner attempts to accelerate and grab the stick before it hits the ice. Once successful expand the distance. The partners that can cover the most distance are the winners! Both partners assume both roles throughout the drill.

Teaching Points

Starts: Push and go from ready position. Knees are bent, toes are forward (not a v-start), side push hard and recover the blade quickly to the ice. Read your opponents release of the stick and call of "Timber".
