Basketball 3

Aug. 24, 2020 at 4:21 p.m. MDT

"Basketball 3" allows player to work on offensive and defensive tactics and transition. The Coach starts the drill by dumping a puck into the zone. Two or three players from each color enter the game and play 2vs2 or 3vs3. The first team that touches the puck attempts to score. If the defending team steals the puck they must transition with the "ROAMING COACH" who skates around in the zone as the play continues. Shifts should be around 30-40 seconds.

Teaching Points

Offensive: Attack triangles to provide the puck carrier with multiple options. Deceptive passing and lookaways to create passing lanes. Avoid forced pucks into closed lanes (especially on passes to the coach). Use the coach at every opportunity not just on change of possession.

Defensive: Three 1vs1's. Defensive side body position, Tight gap on pass options to eliminate time and space, communication (visual, auditory). Read the coach and his positioning to defend effectively.
