"Cliffhanger Shooting", has players receive passes while skating, and forces them to control the puck and quick release shoot. A player from either side begins and skates up and around the cone without a puck and receives a pass from the opposite line. Once the shot is taken the players allow the goaltender to re-set prior to the other side beginning.

Teaching Points

Giver: Read the receiver and put the puck where the receiver is going to be. Pass the puck with the appropriate velocity based upon the receivers positioning.

Receiver: Trap the puck on reception and attempt to shoot the puck without stickhandling. Look up at the target as quickly as possible upon reception. Shooting: Attempt to shoot while moving with head up and reading the position of the goaltender.
