Darth Vader
"Darth Vader", is a very exciting and fantasy type of drill for young players. On the coaches cue the "Young Jedi's" leave planet earth which is a safe zone inside their circle. The coaches are "Darth Vader's" and if they touch a player with their light sabre (stick) the player must return to Earth prior to starting again. The goal of the game is for the "Jedi's" to steal "Dark Side Gold" which is placed on the cones and in the vault behind the cones. If Jedi's are tagged with the light sabre on the way back to earth they must return the gold and start again. If the Jedi's make it back to Earth they deposit the gold in the net. As a progression, players can serve as "Darth Vader". For this to occur players need to be colour coded.
Teaching Points
Skating: Force players to skate multi-directionally and force them into traffic. Heads are up and on a swivel to avoid collisions.
Thinking: Players must read "Vader" and decide when to attack and when to escape. This anticipation and reading is critical to development.
