"Over Under" is a full-ice skating and puck control drill which creates tempo and pace. On the whistle, four players start with a puck. The blue players accelerate to the blue line, tight turn and then skate under the shallow cone. On the same whistle, the red players accelerate to the blue line, tight turn and then skate under the deep cone. All players then skate through the neutral zone with their puck and head up to avoid collisions. The drill is finished with staggered shots on goal. On the coaches whistle the next group of four begin.

Teaching Points

Open Ice Carry: The puck should be in front of the body, head and eyes are always up. As the puck is carried through the neutral zone players are to attempt fakes and deceptive moves. On the shots be purposeful and shoot to score. Every shot matters and also challenges your goaltenders.
