"Ten Second Animal" is a conditioning and tempo drill which pushes players to the max! On the whistle, players go full out for ten seconds with a puck in any direction. Players must stay in a relatively confined space (10 foot by 10 foot area), and execute tight turns, fakes, stops, starts, explosive acceleration. After 10 seconds the coach blows the whistle and players rest for a few seconds prior to beginning again on the whistle.

Teaching Points

Skating: Going full out and maintaining good body control and posture is the key. Push hard when fatiguing which forces the body to change. Attempt to skate with the head up when carrying the puck.
